I Show Speed Stardom

Darren Watkins Jr., or also know by his online alias IShowSpeed, is an every day individual who shot to fame with the help of social media as a result of his unique and crazy personality. He is mainly seen in YouTube and has just recently blew up due to his funny yet controversial clips being shared on the app called TikTok. 

Speed is most often seen alone which means that he produces his content by himself most of the time. His content comes in the form of a live stream in platforms such as YouTube and in the early days it mainly involved him playing and commentating on the video game franchise called NBA 2K. Right now, IShowSpeed has an extremely huge fanbase and he relies on his fans to distribute and circulate the content by watching his streams daily and sharing clips of him to other social media platforms such as Instagram or TikTok. 

IShowSpeed has proven himself worthy to be a popular and iconic figure in the new media. However, he also has other businesses asides from being a Streamer and an internet personality. Darren is also known to be a rapper and songwriter and he released his first single, "Dooty Booty", on his YouTube channel in August of 2021. Following this upload, the song quickly became popular and has been shared to other social media platforms which has influenced it's success. 

Watkins has also been seen to team up with Adin Ross who is another streamer best known for streaming the video game GTA V. One of Speed's controversies and also one of the main reasons he blew up was due to him teaming up with Adin Ross in an online dating stream in Twitch.

Podcast Progress/Changes

       Personally, I think that the progress for our podcast was slow in the beginning and we just didn't really know what to make. However, me and Narent came up with the idea of making the podcast somewhat similar to the Buzzfeed Unsolved series in YouTube. The Buzzfeed Unsolved series was a bit too serious for our liking so we decided to switch things up and make our podcast a little dramatic and humorous.       Before we started to actually record the podcast, we had to run a survey to see what the majority of people are interested in. We made the survey in a google form and asked random people from around the school to answer our survey. After we've collected enough data, we began to spot trends and decided to make the topic for the first episode be about the infamous Red Note.      For my role, I worked on making the dramatic intro for the topic of the episode. I also suggested that there should people commenting in the background as I'm giving out the dramatic intro.

COMP 3 - Critical Self Reflection

This is the section where I would write my Critical Self Reflection for the Component 3 media project. Media Self Reflection Cambridge gave a variety of briefs that I could do. I chose the music promotion brief because me and my group thought that it would be the best option and something that we will enjoy making. The brief given to me said “A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music video (major task), together with an official social media page for the band or artiste(s) and a digipak for the album’s release (minor tasks)”. I decided to choose the genre of pop because the song we chose falls under this category and it fits the overall image of the music video we made.
