New media has helped change the way video games are styled. It has helped older traditional video games update their user interface in order for it to stay in line with the new trends and can even go as far as to change the gameplay itself. An example I'd like to use for this is the video game called Valorant. With the new reboot and release of another game that has existed before called Overwatch 2 along with the help of streaming platforms that help the game become more popular, Overwatch 2 has influenced video games such as Valorant into following their style may it be in their user interface, artstyle, or even how their game is played. New media change films to be more realistic, for example the use of CGI. on the black panther movie. In this film, Marvel uses CGI to make it more realistic and real. the second example of the film was game of thrones to make the dragon visual and the audience could see it. In conclusion, we used to listen to music on the radio, now we can list...

Post - Colonialism

Image
Post-Colonialism in Modern Media Post-Colonialism. What I believe this means is that it is how people tend to base their thoughts and beliefs towards superior and inferior groups off of media texts that represent the more superior group of people such as the British to be more powerful and civilized as compared to the 'other' ethnic groups.  In todays class, we tried to analyze two different media texts that can be seen to use the theory of Post-Colonialism. The first show 'The Crown' represents the British people in a really formal and polite way. They are seen to be more superior and developed as compared to the natives. The natives are also shown to be supporting them in a way that almost looks like they are worshipping the British.  The second show 'The Kingsman' represents the British in a slightly different way. They are shown to be elite, skilled, serious, clean, and white. This is because the British wants the majority of people to view them as the more ...

Postmodernism Research Case Study Heightened / Hyper Reality Documentary: Won't You Be My Neighbor (2018) Mockumentary: What We Do in the Shadows (2019) Reality TV: Single's Inferno (2021) Scripted Reality: Keeping Up With The Kardashians (2007 - 2021) Augmented Reality IKEA Mobile App (2017) The Ikea Mobile App has used the augmented reality technology by implementing it in its test feature. The consumers are able to access a 3D model of the product they are going to buy and view it in augmented reality in order to see it in real size. This can come in very useful as customers who usually buy their stuff online will be able to be guaranteed instead of trying to guess whether the product their buying will fit in their living space or not.

Fan Influenced Digital Remake

Image
Source Case Study: Ghost in the Shell Five years ago the movie called Ghost in the Shell, which was a live action remake of the Japanese franchise, released and received a huge backlash due to the fact that they casted an Asian character with a White woman, also known as Scarlett Johansson.   Ghost in the Shell was released in the 29th of March 2017. Despite them having a star actor playing the role of the main character in the movie, it was eventually hit with lots of critics. The failure of the movie changed Hollywood forever. It brought up the the industries racist tradition of whitewashing casting where the roles of minority characters would be played by white people. This incident has led to the potent warning of racist practices in the film industry.  An article from Inverse says that after Scarlett Johansson happened, fans of Ghost in the Shell began to stop and take action regarding whitewashing in casting. They started to complain and demanded the industry to mak...

Agenda Setting / Framing

Image
Reality > Media Gatekeepers > Media Agenda > Public Agenda > Policy Agenda What are common stories? Currently, the Indonesian media is filled with news about the health department. This is because there has been an incident where kids are getting kidney failures and further investigation suggests that the cause comes from a medicine in the form of a syrup.  How are the stories framed?

Voice-Online Analysis - Post Colonial

Image
Voice-online.co.uk Who is the audience?   I think that the audience for this article are mainly people in the black community. This is because in the website we can see that most if not all the people shown there are of the black community. How have they been targeted?  The black community has been targeted with the use the articles that are present in their website. This is because the articles consist of images of people who are in the black community. The news and events that appear in the website are also related to the black community, even the people who are featured in the articles are of black ancestry.  How does post colonialism fit into this? The post colonialism theory has been subverted in this newspaper page. This is because instead of having white people as the main focus it represents the black community.

Media Recap

Image
Media Studies Class Recap July 26th 2022 Today in Media class we focused more on theory. Firstly we learned about the difference of a Narrative and a Plot. A Narrative is essentially how the story is told and the Plot is what it is like the main event points. After that we learned about the different Narrative Theories such as Todorov's, Levi Strauss', and Barthes' theory. However we only learnt about Todorov's and Strauss' theory. Todorov's theory says that the narratives move forward in a chronological order with one action following another (beginning, middle, and end). On the other hand, Strauss' theory suggests that the narratives have Binary Opposites. This means that there are a pair of related term / concepts that are opposite in meaning such as Good vs Evil or Strong vs Weak. We also watched an episode from the series called 'Friends' and had to figure out the beginning, middle, and end. While watching 'Friends' we also found out tha...

Todorov's Theory - Beauty and the Beast

Image
Tzvetan Todorov's Theory of Narrative talks about how the narration in a story is created. He mentions that the story moves in a chronological order and is made up of 5 stages. These stages are: Equilibrium - Balance Disruption - Problem Recognition of disruption Attempt to repair New equilibrium Case study -  Beauty and the Beast Equilibrium There was once a prince who lived in a shining castle with the power of control, he was boiled, selfish, and unkind. He had everything his heart desired.  Disruption One winters night, an old beggar woman came to the castle and offered him a single rose in return for shelter from the bitter cold. Repulsed by her appearance, the prince turned the old woman away. The old woman turns into an enchantress, puts a curse on him, turns him into a hideous beast and puts a spell on the castle. He had a rose given by the enchantress that would bloom until his 24th year, if he fails to break the spell by earning someone's love, he would be doomed to...

Levi Strauss' Theory - Kung Fu Panda

Image
The Levi Strauss Theory of Narrative suggests that there is a theory of ' Binary Opposites ', which assumes that the majority of narratives in media form contain opposing main characters. These opposites help to add contrast and set a better narrative . For this case study we will be looking in depth into the movie called ' Kung Fu Panda '. Some examples of these Binary Opposites that are included in the Kung Fu Panda movie are as following: Good vs Evil Strong vs Weak Rich vs Poor Courageous vs Cowardice Case study - Kung Fu Panda Good vs Evil In the Kung Fu Panda movie. It is clear to see which are the good guys or the bad guys. The good guys will usually all band together in order to fight off the evil force. In this case, Po and his friends are the good guys and Tai Lung is the "Evil" or antagonist.  Strong vs Weak I think that this specific binary opposite make the movie for what it is. For the main characters or the "good guys", it portrays...
