COMP 3 - Critical Self Reflection

Image
This is the section where I would write my Critical Self Reflection for the Component 3 media project. Media Self Reflection Cambridge gave a variety of briefs that I could do. I chose the music promotion brief because me and my group thought that it would be the best option and something that we will enjoy making. The brief given to me said “A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music video (major task), together with an official social media page for the band or artiste(s) and a digipak for the album’s release (minor tasks)”. I decided to choose the genre of pop because the song we chose falls under this category and it fits the overall image of the music video we made. The song we chose is Memories by Maroon 5.  In this project I worked as a group of 4, my partners were Andrew, Dyfan, and Narent. You can find links to their blogs in my blog.  How do your products represent social groups or issues?  The music video that me and my group has made focuses more on

Media Regulation (China, Twitter, Kominfo)

Image
Blackface - LGBT - Violence - Offensive language (In the past? Now?)     Government change and becomes strict Section 230 - Social Media can't be held accountable Action only after people complain (Offensive item already in circulation, Banning makes it popular) Less freedom, over censorship ---> kids movie censorship Public backlash (Internet makes it easy to communicate) Piracy and streaming sites avoid censorship YouTube ---> easy to view content (community based)

TikTok Case Study

Image
Media Regulation - TikTok The Chinese version of the popular video sharing app called TikTok as we know it is called Douyin. It was released in 2016 and is owned by ByteDance. According to statistics, Douyin has about 500 million daily users. On the other hand, TikTok was released to the US in 2018 and has 1 billion daily users available in 40 different languages.  When talking about media regulation, Douyin certainly has more regulations as compared to the global version known as TikTok. Chilren who are under the ag of 14 has less freedom when accessing the app. From the range of 10pm to 6am, the app is locked and they only have 40 minutes a day to watch videos in Douyin. Not only that, I would like to add the fact that the videos that are featured or shown to these children are all very good natured and aimed to promote education and productivity to these children. Promoted videos by the Douyin algorithm include science experiments, museum exhibits, patriotism and culture videos, e

Digital Regulation

Image
The US law Section 230 (1996) states that a media platform is not held responsible for the content on their site. The company must regulate its own content as long as it acts in good faith. Twitter's purpose is to serve the public conversation. Violence, harassment and other similar types of behavior discourage people from expressing themselves, and ultimately diminish the value of global public conversation. Our rules are to ensure all people can participate in the public conversation freely and safely. ( Twitter Policy ) Companies like Twitter however, can only regulate media that has been posted or published. This means that they can only regulate the content once it has been seen by the world and is out there. A list of some Twitter regulates are as follows: Violence, Terrorism, Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, Hateful Conduct, Perpetrators of violent attacks, Suicide, Illegal or certain regulated goods and services, Graphic violence and Adult content. Twitter has a set of rul

COMP 3 - Social Media Research & Development

Image
Here is our Social Media Research and Development that was made and led by my group member Narent with a little help from Andrew. This blog post was made by Narent. This is the link to his blog:  Narent Here were some post ideas for the social media page, that Narent took from the band Maroon 5, our goal was to include as much things as possible, including merch, nostalgic pics and fan pics. We also made some merch for our social media.  The post on the left consists of multiple pictures compiled together, and separated into several posts, we loved this idea and would like to implement it into our own social media, though we will have different template and themes. As for the merch, we decided to first post them one by one, and then at the end after the release of the album, we would post everything together. The bottom right picture could be an inspiration for an individual post. This was a sort of inspiration for the social media page that Narent took, the post was used for promoting

COMP 3 - Digipak Research & Development

Image
This section was led and made by Me with Narent's help on some ideas and it covers everything about the digipak ranging from its research until its development. DIGIPAK RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT  The style I have decided for the digipak would fit the overall atmosphere of the music video. The digipak would consist of aesthetic and nostalgic elements featuring a polaroid style and a sunset or color gradient in the background which fits with the song's sweet and nostalgic energy. The song we initially chose is "It's You" by Max ft. Keshi. Before changing it to Memories by Maroon 5. My research for the digipak first started when I got inspiration from Aries' album cover named 'Welcome Home'. It provided me with an insight into making aesthetic themed designs. The album cover from Aries had a sunset gradient with a black silhouette. Further research on the song's featured artist 'Keshi' had also given me a good starting point as it includes many
