Advert analysis #2 - HyperX Alloy

Image
This is an advertisement for the HyperX Alloy gaming keyboard, that was released by the consumer electronics company called HyperX. The product is a gaming keyboard that is built in order to sustain more damage and be more durable compared to other keyboards. The goal of the advert is to tell the audience that the keyboard will be long lasting and is enjoyable when used because it has better switches and bright colors that really stand out to the target audience. Media Language  The advert for the razer HyperX Alloy gaming keyboard subverts the genre convention because instead of giving a fully detailed look through the product and stating all the mechanical parts, it actually uses a more comedic and fun approach. The media language is influenced by the products target audience because it uses a stereotype that gamers are usually frail and weak and subverts this in the advert which shows a muscular man using the product for comedic purposes. This makes the advert special and unique w

Advert Plan

Advert Plan Recap 19/08/2022 Today I pitched my ideas for my advert to the teacher, it's an advert for a gaming mouse. The advert shows a man buying an office mouse in a computer store with his friend. Camera cuts and now shows them playing video games in the basement. The camera shows that the man is currently using a normal office mouse and playing really badly. The man then becomes frustrated and is filled with rage so he throws away the office mouse and it breaks. His friend tries to calm him down and lends him a gaming mouse. The man becomes really hyped up and the background shines showing that he entered the video game world. The camera cuts to his face with full confidence and an audio in the background plays and says "Let the games begin". Camera zooms out of his face and it is shown that the man is now stuck in a "gaming mouse" body which looks the exact same as the gaming mouse his friend gave him. The setting looks like a fighting stadium and the gat

Media Recap

Media Studies Class Recap July 26th 2022 Today in Media class we focused more on theory. Firstly we learned about the difference of a Narrative and a Plot. A Narrative is essentially how the story is told and the Plot is what it is like the main event points. After that we learned about the different Narrative Theories such as Todorov's, Levi Strauss', and Barthes' theory. However we only learnt about Todorov's and Strauss' theory. Todorov's theory says that the narratives move forward in a chronological order with one action following another (beginning, middle, and end). On the other hand, Strauss' theory suggests that the narratives have Binary Opposites. This means that there are a pair of related term / concepts that are opposite in meaning such as Good vs Evil or Strong vs Weak. We also watched an episode from the series called 'Friends' and had to figure out the beginning, middle, and end. While watching 'Friends' we also found out tha

Todorov's Theory - Beauty and the Beast

Image
Tzvetan Todorov's Theory of Narrative talks about how the narration in a story is created. He mentions that the story moves in a chronological order and is made up of 5 stages. These stages are: Equilibrium - Balance Disruption - Problem Recognition of disruption Attempt to repair New equilibrium Case study -  Beauty and the Beast Equilibrium There was once a prince who lived in a shining castle with the power of control, he was boiled, selfish, and unkind. He had everything his heart desired.  Disruption One winters night, an old beggar woman came to the castle and offered him a single rose in return for shelter from the bitter cold. Repulsed by her appearance, the prince turned the old woman away. The old woman turns into an enchantress, puts a curse on him, turns him into a hideous beast and puts a spell on the castle. He had a rose given by the enchantress that would bloom until his 24th year, if he fails to break the spell by earning someone's love, he would be doomed to

Levi Strauss' Theory - Kung Fu Panda

Image
The Levi Strauss Theory of Narrative suggests that there is a theory of ' Binary Opposites ', which assumes that the majority of narratives in media form contain opposing main characters. These opposites help to add contrast and set a better narrative . For this case study we will be looking in depth into the movie called ' Kung Fu Panda '. Some examples of these Binary Opposites that are included in the Kung Fu Panda movie are as following: Good vs Evil Strong vs Weak Rich vs Poor Courageous vs Cowardice Case study - Kung Fu Panda Good vs Evil In the Kung Fu Panda movie. It is clear to see which are the good guys or the bad guys. The good guys will usually all band together in order to fight off the evil force. In this case, Po and his friends are the good guys and Tai Lung is the "Evil" or antagonist.  Strong vs Weak I think that this specific binary opposite make the movie for what it is. For the main characters or the "good guys", it portrays
